Here at Made with Maturity we enjoy developing content plans for our clients. We help our customers communicate their messages by writing both relevant content and using appropriate marketing channels to connect with their audiences at specific times. In this post, we’ll share with you 6 tips for developing a successful content plan.

The most important thing is to have a plan! “If you fail to plan, you’ll plan to fail” Planning takes the stress out of managing your content but it does require you putting some time aside on a regular basis to develop a plan. Once that’s in place though and the content is prepared, you don’t have to think about it until the next time.

So what are our top tips for planning successful content? Think 5 W’s and an I!

Who? Who is the audience for your content?  Never forget this when planning. Consider the language style and how best to engage with current and future customers and suppliers.

Where? Where are you going to communicate your message? Think about which channels will be the most effective for your business and the most likely places where your customers will access your content. Consider direct mailings, electronic mailings, web content, blogs as well as social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn etc.

What? Develop a content plan of what you are going to say – what messages do you want to get across to each audience over the channels you choose? Keep content simple and don’t produce content just for the sake of it – have a purpose.

When? Think about scheduling your content when it’s most likely to be seen by your chosen audience. Consider developing content around what’s trending and relevant. Think in seasons and definitely think ahead. Pre-write your content and use scheduling tools so you upload content in one go and it goes lives on the chosen publishing date – simple!

Why? Think about why you are producing your content and include a “call to action” so there is always a purpose to what you are saying. For example, directing people to your website to find out more, to buy product or service, to like a page, watch a video, enter a competition, give you a call….

Interact This is crucial, especially on social media as it helps to develop a relationship with your customers. Look for ways to creatively engage your audience and to grow trust, awareness and excitement for your business and what’s coming next.
